Payoff-Driven Notes/Domino Strategy

How We Inspire Your Line Managers

Carol Anne Ogdin
Founder, Deep Woods Technology, Inc.

Abstract:  We've explained the purposes of the "Payoff-Driven Lotus Notes/Domino" program, and showed you the results other's have had.  Here're the steps we take (usually over a twelve-week period) to make sure the most compelling applications surface from the process.

1. Collaborating with IS/IT and general management, develop a compre- hensive invitation list to get the right people together for Step #3.

2. Based on general management's identification of central issues and critical success factors, and on the list of invitees who've accepted, build up a stock of relevant applications and prepare to demonstrate

a) Compile and review list of candidate applications (developed from industry sources, Lotus Business Partners, and Lotus industry experts); obtain permission from vendors/owners to demonstrate,.
b) Develop the one-day program outline to be executed,
c) Install in-room Notes/Domino network, and rehearse for Notes/Domino champions and other interested parties.

3. Conduct a one-day meeting for middle managers and executives, with extensive multi-media presentations, Notes technology demonstrations and facilitated discussions. During that day:

a) Introduce Lotus Notes and Domino in totally non-technical language that managers and executives understand,
b) Demonstrate live applications and add-on Notes technology that stimulates executive imagination and makes the tech- nology "come alive,"
c) Assist managers and executives to identify twenty (or more) plausible and beneficial applications that serve outstanding business needs.
d) Lead those managers through the process of ranking the plausible applications into a prioritized list.

4. Identify the top two applications worthy of pursuit at the end of the one-day executive session, and identify the participants who will become the project’s champions.

5. For each of these two applications, schedule a follow-up full-day meeting with the project champion, staff and others in the business units who intimately understand the problem and the benefit to the organization for producing a solution. During that one-day meeting,

a) Introduce Notes to the participants, with lots of hands-on demonstration of comparable and relevant examples drawn from other companies.
b) Lead participants to hone in on, define the benefits of, and estimate costs for implementing a best-possible solution.

Working with your Notes/Domino and IS/IT teams, we customize each presentation expressly for your organization, your managers, your business needs, and your Notes, network and communications environment. We educate and convince the most appropriate and important people in your company, demonstrate to them the most advanced and relevant Notes technology in live applications, help them identify the "lowest hanging fruit" of key applications with clear business benefit, and take specific steps toward solutions and results. We’re effective where Notes is fresh and new, and in organizations that have tried a "technology-driven" strategy and would now like to reach for even larger success. We motivate and
inspire your
line managers
to become your allies
in producing

bottom-line results
